The balloon that tells a story

Last week my brother took his boys to the Lions game. He invited Owen to go along with them and they had such a great night.

since they only had four tickets they couldn't take wy. i promised him that I would do something fun with him.....but selfishly we ended up running an errand to a party store because believe it or not, it is virtually impossible to take more than one child into a party store.

wy was my champ that night, we must have been in there nearly an hour, getting supplies for an upcoming bachelorette party that I am throwing for my sister in law. He listened well and was just so cooperative and a super great little helper.

as we were checking out the cashier asked Wyatt how old he was. So he responded, "free" (three). And she told him that he was the best well behaved three year old she has ever seen in the store. She continued to ask him what his favorite color is and he told her green. So she picked out a balloon and asked him if he would like to take it home. Naturally he was thrilled.

He made me carry it out to the car and put it inside the car to keep it safe. We stopped at my sisters for a minute and he specifically requested to leave it in the car so it would be "safe".

When we got home that night it was very dark. As I was getting him out of the his seat I noticed that the string on the balloon was all wrapped around the seatbelt. I told him to stand outside of the car while I fixed it. As soon as I got it untangled I turned around and said "you got it?" when i realized that he wasn't holding onto the string. we both looked up in the air at the same moment, only to watch as his special balloon floated out of reach into the night sky. Then the sobs came.

And let me tell you that the sobs were real! One hundred and fifty percent real and I would have so done anything at that moment to have go-go gadget arms so that I could have grabbed that balloon out of the sky and taken away that hurt from him. But I couldn't do anything. as we walked into the house we were greeted by kris who wanted to know what all the crying was about......so we told him all that had transpired in the last 30 seconds.

Fast forward to the next morning.....me and my mom and dad as well as Owen and Wyatt and my two nephews went to a Lego exhibit at a museum for the day. We had a great time and I'm fairly confident that the balloon was forgotten about.

But to our surprise when we got home, the balloon was in our house. Kris told owen and wyatt that when he got to work on Friday morning that he saw Wyatt's balloon floating low to the ground so he grabbed it. Wyatt was thrilled of course and owen thought it was so cool that the balloon ended at daddy's work.

Props to the hubby for going out of his way to make his boy happy....this is what all fathers should do for their children.

Now I should mention that there was some mad texting going on to make sure that the balloon was identical to the one Wyatt was given the night before. And he got it spot on.....the right color green, the number three and the right color string.

So now Wyatt has his balloon and life is happy again!!

Down and dirty 2013

Today was the Merrill down and dirty race. My sister signed up Owen to do the mud run....this year he promised he would try to get a little more dirty.

Wyatt stayed away from all of the "dirty" people and wanted nothing to do with all of the mud.

Owen succeeded in getting a tad more dirty than last year. He was proud of himself

Here is my nephew getting his face sprayed off so he could see.

My brother with his boys...

And there is talk about doing it again next year. Note to self...don't wear a white shirt next year. Bad,bad idea!!!

A beautiful day

Today I took the boys to a local flight club. At the end of the event they have a buddy box available so the kids can fly the planes with a professional. Owen had a blast. Wyatt was a bit cranky but a trouper about it.

They took a break and opened up the "pits" for the bystanders to check out the cool planes. This one was Owens favorite.

Wyatt liked this one.

This one was pretty awesome and super fast.

Wy liked this one too.

They both loved these rc helicopters. Though they were a bit boring to watch.

And finally the moment Owen waited for the whole day....the buddy box. Learning how to work his controller.

Walking out to fly the plane.

Ready for take off.....

And there it goes.

So cool.

He had so much fun.

At the end Owen said "I didn't know it would be that much fun!"

Another fun weekend

On Friday we picked up Owen and nj2 from spring hill and headed up north with my brother for a family reunion. Here the boys are sporting their tie dye shirts that they made.

On Saturday we headed over to my aunt and uncles lake house and the boys had a blast fishing. This picture was taken because my cousin thought it was hilarious that kris' side of the boat was sinking. Thankfully O and Wy had life vests on.

Owen caught a pretty big bass which measured close to 15 inches.

Owen was so thrilled!

Check that bad boy out!!

And it was a tad overcast so I didn't get on my bathing suit but I did stroll around the lake like this. It was pretty awesome. I loved it!!!

Now back to the grind. Kris starts teaching in one week. This summer has flown by, but we sure did make lots of new memories! Almost a month of our summer was spent in the camper. Can't complain about that.....
