Pine car derby time

This weekend is pine car derby at our church. So in preparation and anticipation for medals and trophies, kris and Owen have been working very diligently, making sure that every detail is perfect.

And today was another snow day so they have enjoyed working together on their cars.

Here is Owen doing a great job painting.

Nice work bud!

I love those little hands...

And his smile!

Concentration at its finest.

Owen is so excited for the race. Last year his car came in first place in most every heat so he is expecting the same results this year. Wish him luck!!!

Good deal turned into a project!

I found this super nice ceramic tissue box holder on clearance the other day for $2.00. The only issue I had with it is that it is super ugly. I even showed kris my bargain of the day and he said "it was only $2 because it is ugly!" So I started thinking how could I turn such a bargain item into something the boys would like. Then I remembered that i didn't use one of the pictures I had printed out to hang on the bathroom wall......so I decided to cut out the pictures and mod podge them onto the tissue box.

The boys seem to really like it.....altogether this cost me about $5 total. Not to shabby and the quality of the tissue holder is hard to beat. What a win win!!!

Before and after....backsplash completed

For valentines day kris said that he would put a backsplash in our kitchen for me. When we had our kitchen redone almost 6 years ago we never had a backsplash put in. Probably to save some money if I remember correctly. But anyway....I was wandering around Costco last week and happened upon some boxes of tile. I instantly fell in love, okay maybe that's a bit exaggerated, but I did like it well enough. I then went to Home Depot to make sure it was a good deal and found out that it was an excellent deal...so back to Costco I went and bought the tile. Kris got the first section up last weekend.

Then this weekend he worked really hard to finish it up. He did an amazing job and I am so proud of everything that he can do!! He really is a true blessing to me and the boys.

It really gives the the kitchen a polished look....a completed look. Thanks kris for all of your hard work! It looks awesome!!

The boys got a new bathroom

When the painter was here last week we had him paint the boys bathroom gray.

I had a perfect vision for this space in my head. It was going to be an awesome blend of fun and playful yet manly enough for the boys to grow into. I envisioned a gray shower curtain with a chevron print with a lime green stripe and all kinds of coordinating colors for the towels and decor, lime green, gray, white and maybe some black and mustardy yellow accents. It was so cool looking (in my head). One problem....every shower curtain I found, Owen and Wyatt hated, so I was back to the drawing board.

Yesterday I went to bed bath and beyond and found some angry birds stuff on clearance. I hesitated for what must have been a half an hour trying to decide between my vision of the space and what the boys would love right now. It was a really hard decision but I let the boys happiness win over my perfect whimsical bathroom.

So last night I cleaned and set everything up and today I framed the artwork and hung everything on the walls. Here is the completed project.

So now I am officially the proud owner of more angry birds trademarked items then I care to admit to. But you know what? The boys are thrilled. This morning when they woke up I heard them talking about the bathroom and Owen told me last night, "thanks so much for getting angry birds for our bathroom, I love it!"

I know that I would not have gotten that response or reaction if I did what I wanted to do in there....it would have been about me, not about them....and that wouldn't have been fair. Because at the end of the day my boys deserve a nice space to sooth and relax aka taking a bath and this will be perfect for them for at least a couple of years..... And I had a blast making it perfect for them!!

A night with Owen.

Owen is on a mid-winter break until tuesday. Yesterday I picked him up from school and we headed out on a surprise trip. Thanks to my mom and kris' mom for watching wy for me.

The fourth graders were selling gak all week long at school. So everyday Owen would ask if he could have money for gak...so yesterday I figured what's the harm in letting the kid get some gak and supporting the fourth graders?? Well for those of you who don't know, gak is like slime. It is really oozy and messy and Owen will probably never get it again. Here he is sleeping ever so peacefully in the car on the way to our surprise trip. Notice between his legs is a little plastic container?!

Well when this angel child decided to fall asleep he did so prior to putting the lid on his gak. This picture was taken after several attempts of me trying to remove the gak from his crotch. This unfortunate mess remained on his pants and in his booster seat for about an hour or longer. When we finally arrived at the hotel and got our keys there was something wrong with our room key. So as we waited forever for maintenance to arrive I asked Owen if he wanted to take off his coat since it was warm in the hallway. He looked at me and whispered "no! I don't want anyone to see my gak mess." This about broke my heart.... A five year old with a self esteem complex already. I was hoping that took longer to develop.

Any hoot, his surprise trip was an overnight to the soaring eagle water park. My sister met us there and brought us dinner. It was a really nice get away. Owens favorite things to do at the splash park were the lazy river and the flo rider which is this surfing attraction.

Me and my boy!!

And later we played cards, drank pop, and ate lots of candy.

It was a really great way to wrap up an exhausting week!!!

And I just realized that I totally forgot to work today. Better get on it!! Have a great weekend!

Crazy week!

We had some rooms painted this week.... we recently had our home appraised and were bummed at the results, so we decided to try to spruce it up a bit. The boys playroom has never been a favorite room of mine. I've always wanted a room that they would enjoy for the next several years. Something fun and playful and colorful and just overall a happy place for them to be.

Here are the before pictures of the drab area.

This is the entertainment center. Check out the non kid friendly picture on the wall and the paint color.

The lighting in this picture is horrible but you get the idea. More of the same. Not really kid friendly or inviting for a child at all.

Blah. Just blah!!!

Here is the after picture. Looking better......

Kid friendly art work.

I still have a lot to do. We are getting new carpet next week so I'm hoping that in itself will be enough to make this space pop. I also am thinking about getting new throw pillows and getting rid of the ottoman and replacing it with something cool. Not sure yet. So far I'm happy with how the room is turning out. If you have any ideas please let me know.

Side note** the walls are not green. They are like a gray taupe color. I love the way they turned out.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Happy love day! It was a crazy day for me. Wyatt went to Grammy's for the day and I took Owen to school. He was a bit hesitant about going in and said that his stomach hurt. I encouraged him to go in and promised him that if he still felt yucky that all he would need to do was call me and I would go pick him up. I even did a bunch of errands in town so that I would be close to the school in the event I was needed. I got home about 12 and was just about to lay down when the principle called and said Owen wasn't feeling well. He had a valentines day party later in the afternoon so I asked him if he could stick it out. He said he could. I ended up heading back in to town since I wanted to be nearby in case i got another call. Everything turned out okay and he ended up staying the whole day. He was pretty clingy at his party but it was a nice clingy so I didn't mind.

Here is wy. Thanks Grammy for sending the picture. I love it. Look at those blue eyes!!

Wy's present. He isn't home yet but will open it before we eat.

Owen looking dapper as usual!

His present. He is sneaking around trying to open it before kris And wy get home.

Hope you all had a lovely day!!! I'm working tonight but I'm trying to make the best of it!!

Back at it

We woke up again today with another day of no school. I guess wind gusts or something.... So anyway Owen was sleeping and sleeping and sleeping which isn't like him. Wy and I were downstairs when I heard him yelling for me. When I went in his room I knew he was sick again, he said the lumps in his throat hurt so bad. After confirming he had a fever I called the doctor to see if they could order some blood work. They said that was probably fine however they wanted to see him first. So off we went. His temp was 102.5 and he threw up in the waiting room. Strep was negative again and so the doc agreed to order labs as it was necessary to find out why he keeps getting the recurring fever and swollen lymph nodes in his neck.

I received a call back that his white count was elevated and that they are still waiting on his mono test.

I've been searching like a mad woman, trying to be a good mommy, and find out why my boy keeps getting sick. He has been sick approx every 22-24 days since Christmas with the same symptoms.

Amongst the frightening things that dr google throws in your face I think I found something that describes Owens symptoms to a t. Hoping to ask the doctor about it soon. Wish us luck!!! Kris and I so want him to be better!

More fun in the snow

Today we went to a sledding hill that my brother discovered. It is right off of one of his running paths so it was in the middle of nowhere. But it was spectacular and totally worth it. The boys had a blast!!

The hill was huge.....and very fast!

Kris and Owen going down.

View from the bottom looking up at the top of the hill.

Wyatt did such a good job all by himself.

Love that face. He was eating the snow again.

Another view of the hill.
